A sentence that is used to express various mathematical relationships is called a number sentence. In other words, it is known as a mathematical sentence that represents different relationships of mathematic elements. 

These sentences are made up of symbols like equality and inequality, which show the essential numerical elements. It is also made up of parts used in calculating, such as multiplication, addition, subtraction, division, etc. Likewise, a number sentence is very important, which shows the quantity, units, and rate, which even helps the people get the correct result or value of anything they want to. 

Moreover, number sentences might be wrong sometimes, and these sentences do not consequently have to be accurate as long as the complete sentence comes with the number. For example, 2-2=4 does not fit right, but it is still a number sentence. 

A sentence that is false or wrong helps to understand the involvement of all the symbols and basic arithmetic. Usually, number sentences can also be drafted with the powers, negative numbers, fractions and decimals. It means it can be written with all those elements which usually come with the actual numerical thing.

Number Sentence

 Likewise, there is one process or step that we can do to change the false sentence into the correct one, and that is to change the sign either it is minus or plus. For example, the above given number sentence was 2-2=4. Still, when we change the sign, which is in the middle of two numbers, it will become 2+2=4, which is correct, and the sentence becomes true after changing the middle sign, which is minus to plus.

Moreover, number sentence is written in the form of numbers which comes with decimal and all of that are usually made up of numbers and signs. Moreover, expressions usually determine equality or inequality. Some of the examples of number sentences are given below:

 5+6= 11 

22-3= 19 

5×2=10 

All three examples above usually comprise addition, subtraction, multiplication or division or mainly a combination of all four. Combining all four numeric elements or a single numeric element can denote the presence of a number sentence. 

 Reading, intercepting and writing mathematics statements involving addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division signs are referred to as mathematical statements according to the national curriculum, which explains that numbers in the number sentence. Children need to understand these sentences used in the learning phase; using the word “addition” can make them easier to understand than using the word “sum.” 

Normally, word addition is used by my maximum children also, students in a first learning phase which is quite easy to understand and teach someone in a proper way. But the word “sum” is also used by most of the students, children, and people feeling easy to define and break down the statement as they like. Some more examples are given below, 

A. 4+3=7 

The value is correct, so the number sentence here given is true 

B. 8+1=11 

The value is incorrect, so the number sentence here given is false 

C. 2+5 < 13 

The value is correct, so the number sentence using a ‘less than’ symbol is true. 

D. 13+5 > 5 

The value is correct, so the number sentence using a ‘more than’ symbol is true.  

 Generally, the number sentence asks students to write down various equations using mathematical symbols, which is quite easy. They can write using those numerical equations, which makes them easier to understand and point out numbers. Likewise, to express unknown values, boxes and shapes are used, which helps to indicate the unknown values. 

This type of structure is called elementary algebra, which is explained to the students. Elementary algebra is some of the basic algebra concepts, and it is one of the important parts of mathematics. Students learn this element of mathematics in a secondary school which also helps to teach them basic knowledge of arithmetic.

Arithmetic deals with the specified numbers, whereas variables known as the quantities without fixed values are introduced with the help of algebra. Moreover, a number sentence that is missing or the value is unknown can be shown by a frame, box, shape, or letter. Also, an equation is defined as an expression with only one variable, which can be calculated like a+1=3, 30=2b.

Equations 

The equation is a number sentence that contains an equal sign. Likewise, compensating equations are vital to know the meaning of the equal symbol. Many understand that the equal symbol refers to the answers or it points out the exact answer. 

But in fact, it is not that most students read that symbol as an answer giving the sign, but it is somehow different from their perspective. Moreover, a calculating device like a calculator brings out confusion among the students. It shows the equal sign as an answer giving symbol, which is not actually what they think of.

Commonly, the children recognize that the equal’ symbol shows both sides of the equation, and for them, they see it as a number sentence until fifth class when the term “equation” is appropriately introduced. 

After that, they will get the idea, and they will know the difference between equal and answer signs present in the calculator. Teachers teaching at the school should make their students understand that the correct meaning for symbol = is ‘’equals’’, ‘’is equal to’’ or ‘’ is the same as’’. 

Input, output and variables 

 There are many other elements that you can learn in the number sentence. Some elements which are used commonly are input, output and variables. 

Usually, inputs and outputs reinforce the children’s knowledge of number sentences and their skills to write the number sentences. Also, inputs and outputs are introduced in four and five classes. Likewise, children learn variables in sixth class as they already have faced what the variable is. 

They will be able to define it as a symbol or shape to point out the missing value. It will be very easy for them to represent the relationship between the known and unknown values with the help of comparison bar models.
